Not sure yet whether MYC is a good fit for you? Here’s some great reasons to join!

MYC is DONATE-what-you-can!

Yes, MYC’s teaching program really is DONATE-WHAT-YOU-CAN — so that everyone is able to participate!

MYC believes that “every child deserves the gift of music”.

To ensure that there are no barriers to participation, we do not charge tuition fees. Families are free to enrol their children in MYC’s music education program – there are no required joining fees or ongoing tuition fees — however we are dependent on donations and grants for our funding.

Parents, please consider regularly donating what you can afford — consider the incredible value that MYC offers your child — the more generous you are able to be, the more children can be given the gift of music.

Please note, there are a few fixed expenses that need to be met by parents/guardians.

MYC is friendly and fun!

There are no auditions to join the choir — we are focused on inclusion & community, fun, and a quality musical education, no matter your child’s ability or experience level. Rehearsals are a mix of vocal games, learning musical skills and practicing songs together.

Our choristers love their choir and rarely miss rehearsals!

learn a unique, easy and powerful musical approach: the Kodály method

All choristers learn to read, understand music and sing using the Kodály method.

Using the Kodály method in choirs enhances musicianship by focusing on ear training, sight-singing, and rhythmic accuracy through the use of solfege and hand signs, helping singers develop a strong sense of pitch and rhythm.

Additionally, the Kodály method encourages a deep emotional connection to music, fostering greater expression and ensemble unity among choir members.

Our History is Long…

Melbourne Youth Chorale (formerly Berwick Children’s Choir and Berwick Youth Choir) is the City of Casey’s longest established choir, founded in 1986.

After nearly 40 years of bringing a professional and fun musical education to anyone who desires it, Melbourne Youth Chorale continues to grow, with 8 choirs and over 100 choristers in 2024.

We have a long, local history, and many of our current staff are former choristers themselves!
