Ever since our founding in 1986, Melbourne Youth Chorale has placed strong emphasis on the development of musicianship and music literacy, using the Kodály concept. Our founder, Jean Heriot, was among the pioneers of Kodály music education in Australia.
Melbourne Youth Chorale acknowledges that the Bunurong/Boonwurrung peoples of the Kulin Nations are the traditional custodians of the lands and waters where we gather, live and sing. We offer our respects to their elders past and present, and we desire to walk together with our First Nations communities and the diverse communities who live here, using song and story-telling to bring reconciliation to these lands now called Australia.
